We returned to Besalu this year, this time we managed to coincide with the phenomenal Medieval Festival that takes place every year, complete with games, tournaments, reinactments, and a splendid banquet, worthy of lords and ladies. This festival is very local so you won't necessarily find many tourists, which is great!!
The dinner was really delicious, and consited of a roasted cow that had been turning on the spit the entire day. Yes, an entire cow! You get to keep the lovely traditional terracota crockery with the festival year painted on to it.
TIP: make sure to book your place at the table in advance at the above link. Otherwise you may have to go on a waiting list. we were lucky!
