Congost de Montrebei

Now this was quite the experience!

240KMs northwest of Barcelona in Lleida, heading towards the Pyrenees you will find the Congost de Montrebei, a breath-taking canyon formed by the river Noguera. This canyon separates Catalunya from the province of Huesca in Aragon.

You can walk for 4KMs along the canyon, with the river down below running along side you, on an old trail used by wood workers who used to take thist rail to transport wood across the mountain. The trail is carved inside the mountain in a semicircle with nothing but a piece of roap attached to the wall to stop you from slipping down into the ravine below.

After a while the turqoise river widens and stretches out before you into the valley. From time to time you can see and hear kayakers hundreds of metres below.

🍃TIP: Not for the feint hearted. Bring lots of water and if you tend to have vertigo don't force yourself.
